Sonic Bird Mastering began when, as a recording engineer, I found myself required to perform self-mastering due to the evolution of DAW technology and changing music production styles.
Mastering, with its specialized processes, requires experience, judgment, and an objective perspective. For this reason, I initially believed it was best to entrust the mastering of my work to external mastering engineers. However, as the demand for self-mastering grew over time and I gained more experience, I began to realize, "Perhaps there are cases where it would be better for me to handle it myself." This realization eventually led to the creation of Sonic Bird Mastering, with the goal of offering my mastering services to others.
Sonic Bird Mastering employs various approaches, one of which is the philosophy of "changing as little as possible when the original is already good." This may differ from the generally perceived image of mastering. However, if the original mix is excellent, I believe the best mastering is one that preserves it as much as possible while adapting it for the medium. Touch what needs to be touched, and leave untouched what doesn’t need adjustment. Any damage caused by alterations is minimized, while compensating for parts that may be lost when transferring to the medium, ensuring it is presented in the best possible way.
Of course, if you have specific ideas or requests regarding the mastering, please share them. By addressing mastering in various ways and sometimes providing feedback on the mix itself, I might be able to contribute to delivering an even better final product, rather than simply mastering it as is. Feel free to give it a try!
